Kvelde football pitch in Larvik municipality, Norway, was completed in 2007. In 2024, the lighting system at the football pitch was upgraded, along with the ball court and the illuminated trails. As part of the upgrade, the lighting level on the football pitch was increased to 350 lux. Even with the higher lighting level, operating costs have been significantly reduced.

Good lighting is essential.
Good lighting in ball courts is essential to ensure safe and active use – even after dark. With the right lighting setup, children and young people can play football, basketball, or other ball sports all year round, regardless of season and weather conditions. Modern LED luminaires for ball courts offer high luminous efficiency, long service life, and minimal maintenance.
The lighting should be uniform and glare-free to ensure good visual comfort and prevent shadowed areas. Typically, 4–6 lighting poles are recommended, strategically positioned to achieve optimal light coverage. By choosing energy-efficient solutions with control systems (e.g. timers or motion sensors), both energy consumption and light pollution are reduced.

Ball court
The multi-use ball court next to the main pitch is also surfaced with artificial turf and has good lighting provided by four lighting poles. Here, we have used the Alux luminaire.
